Thanks to the wonderful Kath Purkis of Le Black Book, I have just added some new pieces to my wardrobe; in preparation for Rosemount Australia Fashion Week (RAFW). The Sretsis Dreamy Lace Tiered Dress in cream, which is just gorgeous (and $670!) is a beautiful addition to my closet because it is such a classic ,feminine and romantic transeasonal piece which can take you from day (with a pair of gold flats) or dressed up at night or launch parties (with some fierce black heels to contrast). Talk about fabulous. Not to mention, I got the most amazing mens oversized tailored waistcoat by cult label Injury, perfect with lame leggings and a plain round neck singlet top and a pair of brogues for a gorgeous androgynous look, and more perfect for fashion week. It's time to skip the safety of conservative fashion(mimicking the 40's and 50's) and trade it in for a new and modern definition of fierce to rival that of Christian Suriano. This black just tells the world that although we're in the middle of economic crisis, I still have the style and opportunity to bring fierce satorialist fashion choices in any situation. Fur is fashion?

Judging from the amount of fur shawls, fur lining, fur headwear and fur trim which has erupted from the runway shows with labels like Hermes, Valentino, Anne Valerie Hash and Christian Dior all embracing the fashionable side of fur. Fur has been a PETA related fashion debate for quite some time now, and honestly, amongst all the avante garde creations which have been popping up here and there recently, it's nice to know that if there is anything I no longer have to purchase to add to my wardrobe, it would be a fur coat as my grandmother had left me one to inherit from her last trip to Paris. Overall, I'm just saying that it's nice to be able to find the quality of such items back in fashion; just as the little black dress is purely synonymous with class and taste; fur appears to epitomise the same level of luxury. And as for the satin Hugh Hefner inspired Dolce pyjama pants from last season...well, those can be left in the bedroom. xx Lisa

Forget Louboutins for once and embrace the neckwear trend which is quickly emerging into the collections of significant designers such as Christopher Bailey for Burberry, Marni, Vera Wang, Miu Miu and Matthew Williamson...just to name a few. Whether they are chunky, beaded, embellished or just plain old interesting, it's time to bring some jewellery back into our wardrobe styles, and with fashion week almost over (key word; almost), it's time to wear elegant Salvatore Ferragamo kitten heels again with a classic black Roland Mouret ensemble, dressed up with a crazy neckpiece. Satorialistic choices off the runways.

For once, let's just completely forget the fashion emerging off the runways and acknowledge the unique style sense during Fashion Week/s!! As you already probably know, Fashion Week is all about seeing and being seen, and this includes style off the runways. I personally know how flattering it is to get a photo taken by a photog just documenting your style or for really, no particular reason. It is enough to go to our heads and a really great ego boost on a grey Parisian/Milan/New York day. Here I have composed a short list of what worked and what doesn't:

Work it:
- Fur and feathers
- Patent leather
- Patterned tights
- Sky high heels (designer only!)
- A beret
- Anything by Balmain
- Cropped pants

Burn it:
- Anything thigh length-ed
- Sneakers
- Boring Jeans
- Short gloves (so last season)
- Small Louis Vuitton monogrammed handbags
- Headbands

Finish a good look off with a Blackberry Bold and pink Filofax in tow. Chuck out any cigarettes and don't forget the aspirin for the expectant after party hangover afterwards.

Avante Garde is definitely a hard style to pull off but when done well, you are guarenteed to have created an edgy individual off-the-runway impression. It's funny because not everyone wants to be caught dead wearing last season's Bottega Veneta suede textured coat but thanks to the likes of Alexander McQueen, it really is possible to draw the line between runway futuristic and worthy-on-the-streets futuristic style. I'm not your typical 'futuristic' girl, I mean; I've never had a dark black Yes Saint Laurent worthy bowl cut complete with dark black thin rectange sunglasses and black Lancome lipstick, but really...can a girl experiment? I suppose the main question is usually how? Why not try a futuristic dress with minimal accesories and a pair of fierce Charlotte Olympia heels and a shimmer of metallic eye make up and there you have futuristic in five seconds. With that said, is there anyone game enough to try the look out...or do I have to trade my style for a day and be the guinea pig? xx Lisa

It's funny how the economy has 'changed' how people dress and how people intend on spending. Frankly, it might sound shallow but unless you are one of those financiers or financial wives/girlfriends in the gutters (which I'm hoping you aren't), you should really continue to sip that Moet and Perrier with pride. For once, forget about conservative fashion and throw on a sequinned Sonia Rykiel beret, a hand printed silk beaded Balmain or Erdem dress and a pair of outrageous heels, preferably by Louboutin or Miu Miu. Extra kudos to you if you can get your hands onto a pair by Charlotte Olympia.
Fashion is about expression and its time to rebute against the tragic economy and more tragic wardrobe choices. Fashion is just too fun for moments like those.

Stop swooning and start saving for a piece of Victoria Beckham, now online at Net-a-porter. I honestly cannot stop staring at the fabulous tailoring and luxe fabrics. Vicky Beckham has just made it into my list of "favourite celebrities turned designers". Any thoughts?

JASON WU:
After Michelle Obama wore a dazzling white one shoulder gown by Jason Wu at the official Inaugural party, there were many positive and negative comments about the dress. Oh well, Net-a-porter has picked up Wu and this has just proven that all publicity is good publicity.

DESIGNERS REMIX:
I love, love, love this label! The designs have elements of chic, runway and haute couture at a surprisingly affordable (but still slightly expensive) price. Inspired by fabric textures and the creation of origami pieces for the garment designs, this label has got to be one of my top favourites right now.

BALMAIN:
After the success of the Spring/Summer 08 show, who wouldn't fall in love with the luxe eighties inspired pieces by Balmain? Expect fitted blazers and edgy ripped denim complete with diamantes and intricate beading. A win-win combination, any day.

Naturally there is more wonderful designers who have just been picked up but we promise to get back to it soon...I mean, it's now officially obvious that we have some serious online shopping to do right now.

It's cute, it's chic, and it's runway fresh. The Iconic team are loving the new Luella dresses available on net-a-porter. The dresses are so sweet and tea party friendly, not to say that they are super cute pieces to add whimsicality to any wardrobe. There is a clear playful essence which makes them seem perfect with a cute oversized feathery headpiece, a pair of satin ballet flats (screw Gladiator heels-we're so over them), and a pair of Chanel pearls to make the look complete for whimsical romance looks. Wear with a sense of humour for that added personality and its good to go.

Honestly I don't spend as much on make up as I do on clothes and shoes. I mean, I do have my Lancome Hypnose mascara, Giorgio Armani khol pencil and the occasional M.A.C lipgloss here and there. It's quite a generic mix of cosmetics and I only refill when I really need to. Anyways, I received a gift voucher for a local department store and for once, instead of splurging on a pair of YSL heels (like I really wanted to), I sidekicked and went straight into the beauty and cosmetics department and before I knew it, I was toting the latest Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte lipstick in brightest of all brights- a total change from my regular nude and smokey eyes look.

So if you ever see a girl wondering around the fashionable streets of Sydney wearing the brightest orange (red temptation) or fuschia (rose cutie) listick in the world with a new choppy designer fringe and the latest Balenciaga heels, don't throw rocks. It's just the new me that I'm loving right now.

The Betsey top channels textured and print elements of Balenciaga and will look amazing with a pair of Sass and Bide Skinny Rats leggings and a pair of super high Yves Saint Laurent platforms. At a mere $165, it is a cheap way to achieve a unique vintage runway look. I know you probably wouldn't wear it together but how awesome are those super chic floral tights? You could wear it with the top to create a cool vintage jumpsuit look, but it's risky. Let's just stick with the top. We'll play it safe...for now.

I was cleaning out my laptop just searching for things to delete and new things to add to the hard drive because it is indeed a New Year and the best way to start a New Year is to get organised. Anyways, I was looking through all these old fashion photography shoots I had as well as previous ad campaigns which I (for some unknown reason) never really uploaded. I figured that you might as well enjoy them while I have them even though it may be a tad old, it is nonetheless still very inspirational. Here are some of my faves before they go into the recycle bin. (There are more but these just exemplify the label so gorgeously)

* Emilio Pucci F/W 2008/9: I couldn't resist this pic only because it exemplifies glamour and Mariacarla Boscono works that signature maxi Pucci dress just beautifully.

* Dolce and Gabbana F/W 2008/9: This Dolce and Gabbana ad campaign makes such a bold yet sophisticated statement as well as encapsulating the essence of a sculptured ladylike feminity.*Roberto Cavalli F/W 2008/9: Statement is made through the intense layering of colour and juxtaposition of the sophisticated-almost eerie background to create something wonderful.* Moussy F/W 2008/9: Agyness plays the edgy fashion forward chic for Moussy with loud clothing in strong fabrics, not to forget these memorable facial and hand expressions.* Versace F/W 2008/9: Two of Fashion's most recogniseable faces are put together to create a sexy sophisticated look for the Versace ad campaign. * Alberta Ferretti F/W 2008/9: Glamorously casual and yet still very, very chic, the Ferretti ad campaign was not plain but instead a rather memorable photographic look.

* Blumarine F/W 2008/9: One word: Fierce. Natasha Poly had executed the perfect look to create a sharp statement among the beautiful clothes.

* Louis Vuitton F/W 2008/9: Ladylike feminity and classic tradition epitomised the feel for the Louis Vuitton Ad campaigns with Laetitia Casta looking just effortlessly ladylike.
* Miu Miu F/W 2008/9: Vanessa Paradis took charge in this ad campaign creating that sense of youthfulness and an essence of flirtation with the camera to produce statement making results.I have more images to upload and I really, really want to upload the Tiffany&Co ad campaigns but I can't seem to find the "ONE" picture so I figured that even though I absolutely LOVE it, it might bore you because it is indeed a part of 2008.

However, It is so gorgeous and features a bit more burst of colour (unlike the more traditional Tiffany ads) as well as many fashion household names like Shalom Harlow, Sasha Pivovarova, Liya Kebede, Lily Cole, Hye Park, Guinevere van Seenus, and Diana Dondoe, so if you want me to post it up; email me or leave a comment (never mind that!). TOP TEN: Looking back at the Fashion trends and Faux Pas of the celebrity "Fashion" world in 2008.

Here are TIFB's Fashion High's and Lows of 2008.

1. Leggings: Thanks to Lindsay Lohan, leggings became a staple piece in everyone's wardrobes even though I totally thought it was ridiculous of her to wear them every single day in the tabloids. Clever marketing skills though as we totally fell for it and bought ourselves a pair.

2. Dior Gladiator Platforms: The Sex and the City movie deserve credit for this trend bringing to the fashion scale, chunky gladiator heels which will look totally last season next season unless the runways prove us wrong.
3. The Maxi Dress: Rumour has it that the 'celebrity' to start this trend was Lauren Conrad...? Whatever, it is a casual get up whether it be from Laguna Beach or the Hills. It was a cute look. Key word: was.4. Cropped Leather jackets: The teen stars one statement piece which depicted rock and roll like no other. It was a classic piece and probably still is yet I honestyle don't want to see another cropped leather jacket for at least another ten years.
5. Celebrity turned designers: Okay, so this isn't exactly a "Fashion trend" but it definitely was a trend in the wide world of Hollywood. I'm pretty sure there hasn't been another year which has seen new faces to the industry known for their 'design' skills. I think Nicole Richie deserves the honours for this with her printed Emilio Pucci and Missoni gear making pregnancy look hot not to forget the fact she was always wearing a pair of heels! I'm also positive she was that shining beacon of hope for other expecting mothers out there.
7. Christian Louboutin heels: Whilst the Fashion industry opted for some Yves Saint Laurent and Margiela, the celebrity pack preferred the signature red soles of Christian Louboutin heels on their feet. It was a trend which started way on top with the A-List celebrities (think Victoria Beckham) before sliding downwards and landing on the feet of reality stars such as Lauren and Heidi. 8. Mary Kate Olsen: Biggest celebrity trendsetter ever who brought back the grunge-oversized-eccentric look whilst embracing the craziness of John Lennon round sunglasses. This girl brings runway to walkway instantly and we have to give her kudos because most of the time, she works it.

9. Designer 'it' handbags: Correct me if I'm wrong but this trend originated in 07 moving it swiftly into the new year and yet still, we cannot get enough of the 'it bag'. From Chloe to Balenciaga to Fendi and Yves Saint Laurent, the 'it' bag was a Hollywood must have which dictated which bag to wear with what. I say, bring back the Birkin!
10. Gossip Girl: Who can forget Gossip Girl for making us fall in love with designer labels and good high fashion style all over again? From the array of preppy gear to the luxe designer gowns and dresses, Gossip Girl is a big 2008 hit which is sure to be huge in 2009.

I know that Christmas hasn't even arrived yet but I have already planned to go to the annual Boxing Day sales with a few friends of mine in the hope of buying some amazing last minute wardrobe pieces before we say goodbye to 2008. I don't know if you know how frezied the boxing day sales can be. All I'm saying is that it can get pretty nasty. Here are my top five tips to make the most of these sales and still come home with the good stuff.

1. Dress comfortably: If there will be anything stopping you from continuing a good well-deserved shopping spree, it would have to be comfort. For once just forget about dressing up and keep casual and comfortable yet stylishly. I personally also recommend wearing particular items of clothing which are easily to put on and take off in case you want to go ahead and try on other items as this allows you not to waste any time in the process of shopping as opposed to wearing a complicated messy outfit.

2. Grab and Go: Just imagine how crazy the crowds might be at large sales events especially Boxing Day. They will pull and grab at just about anything and you wouldn't want to be caught in the middle of it all. My suggestion is to grab as much as you want (that fits you and all) at the first go so that you can rush to the changerooms to try stuff on because chances are that the queus with be very long and if you take your time, the items which you want might not be available for very long either. To Grab and Go really is quite a win-win situation for a big sale event.3. Be in good company: The last thing you want is to go with a massive group of friends. I usually find that taking one good honest friend with you is the safest option as you will be shown a variety of options in terms of clothing and because it is so hectic, the last thing you would want is to have to wait up for others. Time is precious and when you come home with only one item after a complete day of shopping, you will realise this. No children and no boys! Good company will make your sales shopping more enjoyable and less time wasting.
4. Be polite: You don't want to be remembered as the crazy woman who pushed and shoved everyone out of the way during sales time. Instead, act with grace but be firm on what you want. Remember that it is just a sale and it isn't the end of the world. If you find something you want which isn't available, don't ponder over it for too long and move on. Chances are something else would've caught your eye and you won't end up being the scary customer which no one wants to help out.5. Have fun: Sales don't happen everyday so enjoy the rush and the moment while it's there. By the time you get home, you will be so relieved and just ready to fall asleep so enjoy the feeling of frenzy while it's there. You will be so pleased with your purchases if you have a positive attitude and remember that you did get it on sale so being picky would be one of the last things you can be. I know, it seems quite tacky but I came across some sweet designer bag closets. Statements were made through both the ladylike accents of the pieces especially when accompanied with a statement bearing bright yet chic powder blue, charcoal black and intense ivory print combination on the most classic of all styles in Carolina Herrera's Pre-Fall collection. I've noticed a particular trend this season when it comes to footwear and I figured that it all really comes down to one thing. And no, it isn't the heel, the leather, the embellishment but rather the fact that there is a 'strappy' trend going on. I don't mean like petite strips of leather on the front but intense straps and buckles which create the illusion of a chunky shoe. It really is quite amazing to see the extent to which this trend has evaporated. From Chloe to Celine to Jimmy Choo and back at Marc Jacobs, it is a look which is quickly making it big through the big labels which means that you can expect the cheaper chain store alternatives coming in sometime soon as well. The collection was luxurious yet dramatic, detailed but minimalist and comprised almost entirely on a series of well tailored and elegant cocktail dresses in smoky glamorous hues not unlike those evident in the early 20th century. Hair was waved forties style and accompanied with ruby red lips and simple eye make up, not distracting from the classic tailoring which borderlined elements of couture along with hats and millinery taking its course. Rich texture and embellishments contrasted nicely with the simple styles and luxurious fabrics.

Interestingly enough, with the economic circumstances currently being experienced, Posen was inspired by the forties era particularly the fashions evident towards the end of the Great Depression. And with style and classic yet luxurious pieces being draped so elegantly on the runway, it is a great hope to wish that nowadays fashion was based more on elegance and timeless appeal than actually inspired wholly by wordly circumstance and finances.

Themed by Lagerfeld as "Paris- Moscou", this collection was brought about with the presentation of a silent black and white skit focusing on Coco Chanel's flirtation with Russian-Parisian émigré society in the 1910's and 1920's before launching the runway models exhibiting the best of French dressmakers, embroiderers, milliners, and society in a Russian themed setting. Oversized headwear was a focal point of this collection as the intricately exaggerated pieces overlooked the simplistic tailoring and designs of the clothing pieces which were (at first) re-invented in shades of charcoal and accesorised simply with a red belt or structural red heels.

As the collection continued, the emergence of signature Chanel tweed made its mark through the feature of two lined skirting contrasting basic toned wool with iconic tweed sections to create the balance of classic and new trend elements. Oversized white knit pieces accompanied with smooth shades of royal gold contrasted nicely to the deep luxuriously Russian red tones thus creating a look synonymous with High Fashion simplicity. Quality and detailed royal elements meshed with contemporary ready to wear pieces to create a luxurious array of classically themed looks which epitomise the iconography of Coco Chanel and her Russian Escapade. The Burberry Prorsum Pre-Fall collection failed to disappoint with Christopher Bailey bringing back all the elements of Burberry commonly loved and truly iconic pieces brought back to life with modern exaggeration, tie dyed printing repetition, chic tailored extravaganza, and deep classic tones of imperial purples, rich coffee browns and muted grey and charcoal black tones to re-create the signature pieces of Burberry.

Accesories made a smooth comeback with the use of classic brogue heels and sheer stockings to create the classic feel of the label, not to mention the feature of small brimmed hats in dark shades as well as loose textured necklaces which exerted the essence of Burberry Prorsum due to the strategic positioning of this new simplistic piece hanging in front of the tailored trenchcoats and textured mini dresses. Absolutely well made and gorgeously effortless pieces made up Roberto Cavalli's pre-fall collection which consisted of an integration of subtly textured pieces with muted tones and delicate classic accesories to pull of simplistic looks with a sense of high fashion calamity. Intricate floral prints in gorgeous navy blue tones assisted basic beige pieces along with the more effective use of bolder tones for simple contrast created both a youthful timeless appeal to others which could easily be dressed up or down.

There was a strong sense of classic and floaty elements meshed in with more modern tailored pieces which when put together created the perfect balance between ready to wear on the runway and ready to wear on the street. Overall, it was a gorgeous neutral collection which combined the best of the natural and fashion crazy world which is a common sight to those nowadays in the everyday frenzies of the 21st century.

I went to department store Myer today (an less impressive, Australian alternative to an American Bergdorf Goodman) in the city and found the perfect pair of Emilio Pucci flats reduced from $700 to $400. I am so, so, so jealous. I want that dress. I'm positive it is a piece from the RTW Balmain Spring Collection 2009 as I cannot forget printing fifty million copies of that dress and showing it to anyone who would look. It is definitely on my buy list still. You can imagine what a surprise it was to see Carrie Bradshaw's 'alter ego' Sarah Jessica Parker wearing it to the NYC Ballet opening. Question is, when I do see it; it doesnt make me actually want it anymore than I did originally. Has the style sort of been killed a little when you see a celeb wearing the piece you so desperately wanted? I prefer it runway, naturally of course.

Preparation time: 45 Mins, Serves: 8

Ingredients
2 x 250g packets jam rollettesl
1 / 2 cup Malibu (coconut flavoured liqueur)
85g packet raspberry-flavoured jelly crystals
85g packet orange-flavoured jelly crystals
85g packet mango-flavoured jelly crystals
600ml thickened cream
2 tblsps caster sugar
500ml thickened custard
1 / 4 cup fresh passionfruit pulp
2 mangoes, sliced
1. Cut jam rolls into four even slices. Place half over base and around side of a serving bowl (10-cup capacity). Brush with half the liqueur.

2. Make raspberry jelly according to packet instructions. Cool to room temperature. Pour over jam rollettes in serving bowl. Refrigerate until set. Repeat layering with orange and mango jellies, refrigerating between layers until set.

3. Beat cream and sugar in a small bowl with an electric mixer until firm peaks form. Gently fold half the cream into custard in a large bowl. Pour over set jelly.

4. Arrange remaining rollettes over custard mixture and brush with remaining liqueur. Drizzle with passionfruit pulp. Top with remaining whipped cream. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

5. Serve trifle topped with mango slices.
